3rd annual Women in Leadership Forum and the Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women an inspiration for the region’s women

Abu Dhabi, November 27th 2011 – The 3rd annual Women in Leadership Forum and the Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women concluded last Thursday, with the two-day leading women’s platform an overwhelming success.

The combined event was organised by leading French business information group naseba and has a conference-style agenda comprising of keynote addresses, panel discussions, networking sessions, and workshops conducted by leading business women and entrepreneurs from the region.

“Women In Leadership Forum is one of our flagship events and it was an honour to host it in conjunction with the Shamsa Bint Suhail Awards for Creative Women. The aim of the forum is to recognise the key role women play in the prosperity of the region and aims to inspire, innovate and influence future women leaders through an interactive knowledge-sharing platform,” explained creator of the Women In Leadership series and CEO of naseba, Sophie Le Ray.

The event was officially opened by Dr Mouza Ghubash, Chairwoman of the Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women, and Director of the Rewaq Cultural Centre. Other highlights of day one included the Women In Leadership Achievement Awards ceremony, which recognises outstanding women leaders and employers from theMiddle East– and the Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women.

Her Excellency Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, was also present at the forum. She gave a special address on day one entitled ‘Engaging and empowering women in business and the economy.’

Topics ranging from ‘Empowering women through inclusive business models’, ‘Reflections on leadership’ and ‘Beyond the glass ceiling – transforming barriers into opportunities’ were delivered by an impressive list of renowned speakers. These included Her Excellency Fatima Al Jaber, Chairperson of the Abu Dhabi Business Women’s Council (ADBWC); Professor Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman, Director of Office for Outer-Space Affairs for the United Nations; Soha Nashat, Senior Advisor and Board Member for Barclays Bank (Suisse), and Susan Mboya PhD, Group Director, Eurasia Africa Group for Women’s Economic Empowerment, The Coca-Cola Company.

On day two, interactive panel discussions and workshop sessions debated a number of key issues, such as the prerequisites to being an entrepreneur, the benefits of mentoring and coaching, and value-driven leadership.

The two-day initiative also received support from a number of leading global and regional organisations, including National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company – TAQA, Barclays, Coca-Cola Company, du and Etihad.

Saif Al Shehhi, Senior General Manager of the Domestic Banking Division of NBAD commented on their involvement: “NBAD is a forward-looking, safe, responsible, and innovative bank. We are very keen on working in partnership with the best in class and we are proud to partner with the Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women and Women in Leadership Forum as we share the same values and ambitions.”

Dr Susan Mboya, who spoke on the morning of the first day explained: “Over the past few years Coca-Cola Company has continued to renew its commitment to the economic empowerment of women. In 2008, as part of the UN Millennium Development Goals, Coca-Cola pledged to establish micro distribution centres inAfrica- run by entrepreneurs – as a way of distributing its products.”

Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa Bint Suhail, wife of His Highness, President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, gave a speech to the 600-strong audience before personally presenting the awards.
